Euthanasia: Good Death for Animals Too

“Ever occur to you why some of us can be this much concerned with animals suffering? Because government is not. Why not? Animals don´t vote” (as cited in Quotations, 2009). In Paul Harvey´s words, the government does not really care about how cruelly people can treat animals. In this moment, a lot of animals are being painfully killed and some others are being mistreated in the streets of our country. For that reason, euthanasia should be used in old, homeless or industrial animals. Euthanasia is the best option for animals that have no possibilities to find a home without violence and animals in an incurable condition that are used in farms or in any kind of industry.
Although some people can say that animal euthanasia is expensive, unavailable, and unprofitable, it is also true that animals also deserve an honorable life and death. For that reason, euthanasia is the key to diminish the pain and suffering they are feeling. Nevertheless, others argue that animals do not feel pain and that they do not suffer from sickness and sorrow so they can die in whichever situation. However, animals, like human beings, feel and express sings of pain because they have a nervous system, too. For example, when animals are physically hurt, they react and express that pain. Also, pigs show a high level of stress when they know that they are going to be killed soon.
As a result, people must do something to help animals. Adopting a pet is not always the best way to help because some animals are aggressive after being in a shelter for some time. In addition, not all the animals that are suffering can be good pets; imagine adopting an old cow or a sick snake. Instead of that, euthanasia is the best way to help them. Nevertheless, in order to stop animal suffering with euthanasia, animal protection organizations should have the economic support not only from the government but also from citizens.
Finally, animals are very similar to humans; even when some people do not want to realize that it is a fact. Humans are in this world in order to protect other species and, by helping them to have a less painful death, humans are showing how merciful they can be. As Pierre Troubetzkoy states: “Why should man expect his prayer for mercy to be heard by What is above him when he shows no mercy to what is under him?” (as cited in Quotations, 2009).
